Another major and huge upset happened yesterday in the Men’s Doubles category where the world number one’s sent home by the Korean duo Choi Sol Gyu/Seo Seung Jae. This is the third time that Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo failed to medaled at their third participation in the World Championships.
In 2017, they reached the Quarter-Final stage and lost to Chai Biao/Hong Wei. They had a match point in the third game but failed to convert. In 2018, they also reached the Quarter-Final stage but yet again lost to Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda in straight sets. This year, they lost in the very first round to Choi/Seo in three thriller sets. This is the second time in three years that the number one seed in the Men’s Doubles category lost in the very first round. In 2017, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen lost in the very first round to Mohammad Ahsan/Rian Agung Saputro who went to take the silver medal.
