TOTAL BWF World Championships 2019 : DAY 2 Recap

Second day of competition of the 25th edition TOTAL BWF World Championship 2019 concluded yesterday (20/7) and many great matches and first round actions, and lastly the first big upsets of the tournament happened in the Women’s Singles category.


Akane Yamaguchi of Japan failed to progress to the Round of 16 yesterday (20/7) . Yeo Jia Min from Singapore is the one who defeated her in straight sets 21-14, 21-18. This is a very shocking results for badminton fans around the world knowing that Yamaguchi is the number one seed coming into the world championships and she is on top form by winning all her previous individual tournament before going to the World Championships by winning the Indonesian and Japan Open in consecutive week. But this is a very happy news for Singaporean fans, because Yeo Jia Min is the first Women’s Singles from Singapore to progress to the Round of 16 since Li Li in 2005.

Another upset also happened in the Men’s Singles category where five-time former champion Lin Dan from China lost to H.S Prannoy from India in three sets.
